The NYT crushed my dreams. Although, I guess I shouldn't take it out on them- it's New York's fault. But then, I could never be mad at my beloved New York so I don't know who to blame. It's really the economy's fault, and it's kind of hard to point fingers for that. But- ever since I decided to become an English teacher (a whopping 5 months ago) I've dreamt of teaching in a big city and making a difference to underprivileged kids. My brother Marshall gave me the book Freedom Writers for Christmas, and while I have yet to read it (it's on my summer list) I did see the movie (which I highly recommend) and now I dream of being Hilary Swank. But now, all hope seems lost. Washington DC is always a good alternative though, right?

Because of Winn-Dixie
I just finished reading Because of Winn-Dixie for my Literature and Film class. I didn't expect to like it, but I couldn't put it down. It's a fast read, and it's adorable. I had a bias against the author because she also wrote the book this movie was based on, and I did NOT like it (which is saying something, because I like most movies). But if you have some time this summer I would definitely suggest it. It's so cute, AND it has a happy ending, unlike most dog books. In class on Tuesday we're going to watch the movie, and I have a feeling it's not going to do the book justice.

My Summer Resolution
Jamie and I: Football 2008I have decided to be happy. That is my summer goal. Nothing big or grand, but it's significant. My bestest friend is in France for the next two months and hence we can't call, text or see each other. She won't be back in Provo until August. My other best friend, and college roommate of three years is getting married July 11. Needless to say, feeling slightly abandoned. But after reading my brilliant friend Amy's blog, I was inspired. I need to be happy. My happiness shouldn't be dependent on others. This is a wonderful opportunity. I'll be taking classes Spring Term and I can focus on my classes and I'll have lots of free time to read wonderful books and make new friends. It's going to be a great summer. I am going to be happy and I'm not going to feel sorry for myself. Let the good times roll.

My Happy Thought
The thought of these are what's getting me through the end of finals. That and freedom. They should arrive within 7-10 days if all goes according to plan. Thank you tax returns!

What I Should Have Been Doing
This is where I should be spending my time since the impending doom of finals is upon me. The fabulous Harold B. Lee Library. The semester ends Tuesday and I have 3 papers to write before then. Wish me luck.HOWEVER.... instead, I've been having much more fun!
A few weekends ago my friend Jamie and I went to the Festival of Colors at the Krishna temple in Spanish Fork. Basically, it's a bunch of BYU students crammed into a small space throwing colored chalk at each other. This is the result.
Last Friday Jamie and I went to Kneaders with our friends Spencer and Brad. We felt it necessary to initiate them into the tradition of all-you-can-eat frenchtoast. So good!
Tomorrow our friend Nicole (on the right) is leaving to go back up to Idaho for school. A bunch of us went to Macaroni Grill for dinner last night. Delicious! Seriously, one of my favorite restaurants. And just an inside note- they have really good whole wheat pasta.

And finally, to end the festivities, Jamie and I went to our friend Jason's intermural bowling championship game. Sadly, they lost. And sadly, watching bowling isn't very exciting. But it was fun to be there and support him in his nerdy activities.
The pinnacle of the I-don't-want-to-write-my-papers festivities is going to be my BFF and roomie Candace's bridal shower on Saturday. It's going to be my first attempt at throwing such a shindig and I'm quite excited. I'll leave you know of how it goes.

In My Dreams

I found this dress on this blog and I'm in love. It's beautiful. I've always dreamed of a day when I'll get to wear pretty dresses and go to fancy parties and events, although I'm slowly realizing that day will never actually come (especially since I'm going to become a teacher). But I can always dream. (And since it's just a dream I don't lose points for the immodest factor)

WOW (word of the week)
Exhibit A: My friend Spencer at our ward's Oscar Nightschmooze: [shmooz]
-noun
a charming, suave, sweet talkin' man
Note: This is mine and my friend Jamie's new favorite word. We use it as often as possible. Mostly in referrence to good lookin boys who know how to convince girls to do whatever they ask. Start testing it out- you'll love it!
(In other interest- the word schoomze actually means idle chatter or gossip- but I like my definition better)
